We’re pleased to several new works by Katy Horan. “The Untitled Portrait Series” draws on Katy’s previous themes of victorian spinsterhood, Renaissance portraiture and the idea of the archetypal witch figure. These organic solitary figure’s delicate textures and intricate linework are made from tissue paper, pencil and gouache on paper.
About Katy Horan:
Katy Horan's work examines female roles and representation found throughout history, art and mythology. She pulls from a variety of sources, using mixed references and visual fragments to build new variations of familiar figures. Horan says that her hope is that her images will be at once be identifiable and ambiguous, inviting the viewer’s own imagination and past experiences to inform their interpretations of the work.
