THE DAZZLE
A CABINET OF WONDER

Curated by Kristin Weckworth

New at Magic Pony

Narwhal Art Projects invites you to experience The Dazzle, a study and celebration of collection fetishism. Collaborating with over thirty different artists and assemblers, Narwhal presents a cabinet of wonders that reveals the mysteries of the world through an installation of enigmatic treasures. Inspired by early 17th century Wunderkammers, The Dazzle exists as a microcosm of our world, capturing diverse specimens from a wide array of studies including natural history, geology, mathematics, archeology, magic and mythology. Mirroring early explorers who used the Wunderkammer to showcase worldly discoveries from distant lands, The Dazzle unearths artist creations fabricated through internal mind mapping, resulting in an awe inspiring collection of the bizarre.

Contributing artists include Stephen Appleby-Barr, Joe Becker, Katie Bethune-Leamen, Rory Dean, Nicholas DiGenova, Shannon Gerard, Katy Horan, Melinda Josie, Adrienne Kammerer, Peggy Kouroumalos, Christy Langer, Ginette Lapalme, Jamiyla Lowe, Derek Mainella, Noel Middleton, Megan McKenzie, Julie Moon, Jennifer Murphy, Jennifer Muskopf, Tibi Tibi Neuspiel, Jessica Polka, Jennifer Rose Sciarrino, Jennie Suddick, Carly Waito, Jacob Whibley, Selena Wong, Naomi Yasui and the Wild Unknown.

THE TAXALI 300

THE ART OF GARY TAXALI
EXHIBITION CATALOGUE

New at Magic Pony

Celebrating Gary Taxali's career as a commercial illustrator, The Taxali 300 is a printed catalogue for the Narwhal Art Projects solo exhibition of the same name. Spanning two decades and multiple awards and accolades, The Taxali 300 showcases a retrospective of select illustrations and collages that repre- sents Gary's exceptional body of work, and the prolific scope of his art practice.

As a hybrid of a monograph within more of a zine style format, The Taxali 300 comes in a decidedly different scale—it is a small-press edition and unique in size and feel, friendly to browse and engaging to enjoy..

"Gary Taxali visually blends now with then. His style, inspired by vintage comics and advertising art is repurposed with the goal of communicating the ironies and comical essence of popular culture. His work is at once alluring and endearing. Despite the vintage look, he is neither maudlin nor nostalgic. His imagery is rich in satiric verve." - Steven Heller

FANCY ACTION NOW

THE ART OF TEAM MACHO
New at Magic Pony

Magic Pony is pleased to present Fancy Action Now, a new book with Canadian art collective Team Macho. Fancy Action Now documents the prolific works of Team Macho over the past three years. Team Macho express a unique attitude toward collaboration, a highly competitive spirit where the very nature of their alliance revolves around thwarting and subvert- ing each other's contributions.

With a penchant for humble, unconventional materials like dollar-store watercolours and thrift-shop frames, Team Macho's work conveys a decidedly unorthodox and individual approach. Exploring several key elements in their artistic pro- cess - camaraderie, geeky bravado, the creation of a personal culture laden with absurdity, inside jokes, sabotage, fluores- cence, raquetry, and most importantly, fanciness, Fancy Action Now unleashes Team Macho's true pansy awesomeness.

Introduction by Paul Dallas, Dean of Illustration, Ontario College of Art & Design and artist interview with Gary Taxali, award-winning illustrator.

MY MANIA

THE ART OF DERRICK HODGSON

New at Magic Pony

My Mania is the first comprehensive collection of emerging artist Derrick Hodgson. This book unearths Hodgson's creative process from sketch to screen, and gives insight on how he interacts within this cycle.

Throughout the brilliantly chaotic pages, Hodgson takes us on a strange journey into his abstract world influenced by nature, growth and death. Poppers, peepers, floaters, sprouts, spores, walkers, yetis and gouls interact and float in a stew of mania. Art, photography, product design, rough sketches and writing are collaged together to create a blueprint for Hodgsons world of mania.
