Nicholas Aoki Goodnight Sweet Hearts

Aug 13 - Sept 20, 2009

GOODNIGHT: SWEET, HEARTS.
Nicholas Aoki

Narwhal Art Projects presents GOODNIGHT: SWEET, HEARTS., Nicholas Aoki's premiere solo exhibition.

Summoning the essence of heroic tradition found within work such as The Illiad and The Odyssey, goodnight: sweet, hearts. explores the modern day struggle between skepticism and belief, mortality and philosophy. Nicholas Aoki creates an epic narrative composed of Gods and mortals seeking passage, testing fate and enduring trials amongst an ensemble of anthropomorphic archetypes. Through each atmospheric landscape, there is a constant transformation and the inevitable existential questioning of life, death, faith and the fantastic ideal.

Nicholas Aoki is an artist and illustrator working in Toronto, Canada. A graduate of Sheridan College's illustration program, Aoki began producing work within the Canadian art collective Team Macho. Since graduating in 2002, he has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Bordeaux, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Amsterdam. A medium intrinsically associated with pre-digital illustration and automobile painting, Aoki wields the airbrush with a painterly sensibility, applying watercolour and acrylic with precise delicacy.
