Linda’s ❄Favourite❄ Holiday Tradition~
One of my favourite memories and traditions during the holiday season, as a child at home in Ottawa, was wrapping presents with my mother. It’s important to know that my mother is a seasoned, master-wrapper. If there was a council of the most excellent gift wrappers in the world, my mother would be like a wrapping savant, with her scissors armed like a katana and her fingers swift in executing extra-tight corners. My job was to choose what paper design should go with what gift (always fun), and more importantly, to be a human tape-dispenser. I felt empowered by how crucial this job was: I was like her surgical assistant, always at the ready with the perfect length of tape for her speedy wrapping actions.
What made this time extra special for me though, was that it was always late at night, after everyone else in my family had gone to bed. We had to be secretive since we were wrapping gifts for other people in the house, so we always snuck into a corner of our home like shadows in the night; little ninja elves. These were precious, secret moments that only my mother and I shared, giggling under the cover of night among piles of glittery paper and mountainous rolls of ribbon.
