Tove Jansson (1914–2001), beloved Finnish illustrator and writer, published the first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945. She subsequently published 8 more novels chronicling the adventures of the Moomintroll family and their collection of friends. Her books, comic strips, and picture books have sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 30 languages.
