PON PON PONY JAM
Designer Toy Installation
Design Exchange, Toronto
Feb 7 - May 25, 2014

Magic Pony presents Pon Pon Pony Jam, a special curated installation championing the multifarious world of character design featuring international artists Devilrobots (JP), James Jarvis (UK), Junko Mizuno (JP), Michael Lau (HK), Nathan Jurevicius (AUS) and Pete Fowler (UK). This diverse group of creators are recognized as discernible pioneers within the designer toy field, communicating their visual philosophies through the unconventional medium of the art toy.

Presented as a series of natural history dioramas, each miniature world allows viewers to explore and observe the art toys as specimens existing within the habitats of the creator's imaginations, connecting with the larger narratives these characters exist within and gaining an intimate perspective on the individuality and range found within each artist's ouevre. Created by Kristin Weckworth and Steve Cober of Magic Pony and Narwhal.

This Is Not a Toy: With guest curator Pharrell Williams, the exhibition explores the conceptual toy – a form made solely as an expression of an aesthetic, concept or idea – as an art and design object as well as a contemporary cultural signifier. On display until May 19, visitors dive headfirst into the realm of designer toys as the Design Exchange is transformed into a vibrant and whimsical environment, filled with forms ranging from tiny trinkets to enormous free-standing pieces.
