MARKETING COPYWRITER

Magic Pony is seeking a Marketing Copywriter who loves the Magic Pony vision and wants to help us expand it into other dimensions. As the Marketing Copywriter you are a creative individual who loves to write, and most importantly, you understand and identify with Magic Pony and our unique voice. You are able to craft compelling, articulate content and understand the subtleties of targeting your writing to various platforms including our website, blog, and social media. Working closely with the owners, the Marketing Copywriter will be responsible for weekly blog content, product descriptions and accompanying promotional support through social media and our e-commerce site. You will help us develop creative campaigns to inform and delight and you have an inherent understanding of the multifaceted levels of Magic Pony: our unique retail space, website, and the events and exhibitions we create and feel excited to write within those diverse yet connected channels.

Magic Pony is currently partnered with Design Exchange, Canada's foremost Design Museum. Operating as the gift shop within the museum, Magic Pony's selection of products and supplementary programming will partner with the exhibitions taking place at the museum. From September 2014-January 2015, the DX will be hosting 'The Politics of Fashion'. Experience with writing or working within the fashion industry are definite bonus skills for this position! 

As the Marketing Copywriter you will: 
• Write fun, smart, bold and creative copy that represents the Magic Pony spirit
• Elevate the voice of Magic Pony—you are excited about the artists and designers we work with and are passionate about art, design, fashion, music and pop culture. You nerd out! You are a fan of things and you are passionate about connecting these dots into beautiful constellations
• Maintain the voice of the brand in all written material
• Write copy for weekly marketing emails, homepage updates, landing pages and special brand marketing initiatives.
• Conceive and write messages for marketing campaigns, events and partnerships. Adapt these messages appropriately and consistently across different channels, integrating with such platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest
• Collaborate with the owners to create ideas for promotions such as contests, special events and other magic
• Be an expert on marketing copy and go-to for copy needs
• Take ownership of all copy deadlines
• Understand how copy and messaging fit into overall brand goals

Your Skills:
• 1+ years of professional copywriting experience or equivalent personal experience with personal blogging or freelance writing
• Experience working in a creative field such as art, design or fashion
• A passion for generating ideas for interesting and exciting content that will help shape the MP brand voice
• Comfortable writing content for the home page, landing pages, blog, online ads and social media assets
• Comprehension of logical page structure, readability, visual hierarchy and balance, and have an understanding of eCommerce marketing language: call to action & conversion
• The ability to think critically and to see the big picture
• Exceptional problem solving skills
• Able to work on your own and in a team environment
• Awesome leadership and decision making skills
• Incredible attention to detail and consistent follow through
• Able to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, non traditional working environment
• A desire to make cool things happen
• Availability to work during weekdays with some flexibility
• A love of magic, weirdness and fun

Bonus Skills:
• A degree in Communications, Journalism or related experience in a professional environment
• Experience and skills using the Wordpress platform
• Photoshop, and HTML
• Product photography
• Self created content for sharing your writing such as your own blog or zine

JUNIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Seeking a highly motivated Junior Graphic Designer with a strong design foundation (typography, form, color, composition, image-making, etc.), and a clean, playful and sophisticated graphic sensibility. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our brand identity and work across multiple channels from marketing to interactive. You will need strong organizational and interpersonal skills to excel in this role. High interest & familiarity with Magic Pony brands, artists and products is essential. The Junior Graphic Designer works directly with owners in our studio in downtown Toronto. Looking to see portfolios with relevant work in eCommerce, branding, fashion or art realm. Recent graduates OK.

In this role you will:
• Research and participate in creating typography, layout and trends in graphic design relevant to the visual language of Magic Pony
• Design in-house branding projects
• Contribute to the visual content of the website, blog, email templates, content integration and other various brand projects
• Design compelling marketing and weekly assets for the home page, landing pages, blog, social media assets, etc.

You have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design/Communication Design
• Strong foundational graphic design skills including typography, form, colour and  image-making
• Ability to design and create assets in a variety of styles from hand drawn to digital 
• High fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) 
• Comprehension of e-commerce design ie logical page structure, readability, visual hierarchy, and marketing language
• Ability to translate style guide into visually compelling and easy-to-navigate designs for emails, Tumblr, blog, banners and promotions
• Ability to work efficiently with the team under tight deadlines, respond to feedback with a positive attitude and adaptability to late-changing requirements
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
• High attention to detail
• Bonus: familiarity with mobile and responsive design
