Excretion Escapades The Cultural Movements of Michael Comeau & friends
THURSDAY SEPT 7th 20067-11pm Location:Magic Pony Gallery694 Queen St West Toronto ON Canada 416.861.1684 Running Sept 7 - Sept 23, 2006 For the past six years Michael Comeau has been an advocate and exhibitor in the Toronto street art scene. Like a one man factory, Comeau regularly conceives and turns out artwork for some of the city's most well known events such as Vazaleen, Hump Day Bump and Kung Fu Fridays. Choosing to post multiple works across the city, Comeau's unique posters are coveted and snatched by the city's most savvy art appreciators. However, many people who collect this work are unaware of its authorship. After years of postering anonymously, Michael Comeau is now ready to come out of the closet. Excretion Escapades is Comeau's overwhelming body of work released into public consciousness for the first time. Excretion Escapades explores Comeau's lifestyle as a cultural worker. In addition to postering, Comeau often chooses to work in multiples - silkscreening his artwork on household items such as bedding, lampshades, shower curtains, album covers and clothing. A self described "Photocopy Virtuoso", Comeau's fascination is with the manual manipulation of technology. Instead of concentrating on what has narrowly been defined as fine art, Comeau continually pushes the possibilities of multiple art products created by hand. This prolific book project features comics, drawings and bold visual communications by some of the most exciting practitioners in their respective fields.
