About Magic Pony
Magic Pony is a creative space composed of a shop, studio and gallery.
We specialize in collaborating and showcasing artist products and
exhibits. We work with a wide range of multidisciplinary artists who
create designer toys, t-shirts, books, plush, prints and unique household
items alongside their body of artwork. The Magic Pony space was created
by Steve Cober and Kristin Weckworth in 2002. It began as a small
collector’s circle, with us importing everything we loved in
designer toys from Asia and selling it to a small group of collectors.
This space grew to a website and the website grew to a larger shop.
Finally, the shop grew to incorporate a gallery.
Today we exhibit both local and International artists, many who have
never shown in Canada before and are considered to be the leaders
in their respective fields. To compliment each art exhibit we work
with the artists on creating and showcasing products for the shop.
Most of the products we carry are limited edition, so the shop is
always changing and this adds to the enjoyment of our space. One month
you may come across hand drawn walls and forest creatures by Nathan
Jurevicius, the next you might find the walls covered in giant pages
of a colouring book by Kozyndan, a few months later you might see
giant Space Monkeys invading our space by Dalek. Magic Pony was created
for people to enjoy, learn and be inspired. We say “a shop for
creative animals” because we have created a space that allows
people an outlet to showcase work and connect with other creators
and enthusiasts.
Articles on the gallery, exhibitions, and artists have been featured
in: The Toronto Star, The National Post, The Globe and Mail, CBC Radio,
TVO, MuchMusic, Elle, Bits Magazine, Juxtapoz, Res, Pound and in many
international publications. Exhibit collaborators include Rojo (Spain),
Fying Cat (HK), Resfest (USA), Toy2R (HK), Strangeco (USA), Recon
(USA) and Cross World Connections(JP).
