NOW THERE'S ONLY LOVE IN THE DARKC'est Moi Ce SoirEvent Info l Artist Bio l ArtworkOpening Reception:THURSDAY APRIL 12th 20076-9pm Location:Magic Pony Gallery694 Queen St West Toronto ON Canada 416.861.1684 From April 12 - May 13, 2007 Magic Pony is pleased to present Now There’s Only Love in the Dark, new work by British artmaking duo C’est Moi Ce Soir. Including drawing and mixed media collage, Now There’s Only Love in the Dark also features a self-published artist’s book and a limited edition silk-screened t-shirt produced in conjunction with Magic Pony. The exhibition runs from April 12-May 13, 2007. The opening reception is Thursday April 12, 2007 from 6-9pm. Christopher Green and Gary Barber currently reside in Peckham, South London, occupying a large squat-based studio with twenty-five other artists. Described by London’s The Guardian as the city’s newest art hotspot: “Peckham, trading only a little hyperbolically on the reputation of its grim estates, looks set to become London's answer to New York's Williamsburg: an affordable, "vibrant", warehouse-filled (and suitably gritty) hub for artists.” In exchange for inexpensive living, studio, and exhibition space, C’est Moi Ce Soir have found themselves impromptu caretakers, renovating the disused four-story Georgian mansion into suitable studio and gallery space, known as 78 Lyndhurst Way. Having left JimJam WigWam in Canada following his trouble making antics during the pair’s first solo show at Magic Pony in June 2006, C’est Moi Ce Soir return with a show of works on paper. This time the audacious pair’s narratives pull upon fragments of fiction and the extra-ordinary. Working within the faux-naïve style of artmaking, C'est Moi Ce Soir articulate a position of individuality in relation to mainstream contemporary art practices. Concentrating on the personal expression of imagination and creativity, their work seeks to convey a particular subjectivity, while evoking a sense of vernacular storytelling.
